The investigation revealed that the Ferrari was inspected by the manufacturer after being sold to an American customer through a British broker. The car was taken to Japan after the theft and returned to the UK in 2023, being seized by the police to prevent its leaving the country.

Berger and his colleague Jean Alesi had their cars stolen during the 1995 event. The Ferrari 512M, the latest evolution of the iconic Testarossa from the 1980s, featured a 4.9-liter V12 engine producing 434 horsepower.

There have been no arrests related to the case yet, and Alesi’s F355 remains missing, despite the duo’s success at the San Marino Grand Prix, with Alesi finishing second and Berger third.
